
In May 2006, Unison, with the support of: The VELUX Stiftung Foundation and The European Commision, put on the Central Asian European International Forum on Climate Change (CAEFOC).
The conference allowed Central Asian states to see the success of Europen models, and show the need for Central Asian governments, businesses and local NGOs to act in preventing climate change. The conference took an in depth look at the current energy markets for Cental Asian nations, what the greatest energy problems were facing these countries and the possible solutions to these problems.
Overall, the conference had 36 presentations during the five sessions, and more than 100 participants. The participants came from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazahstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Russia, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Slovakia, Austria and the USA. European countries' participants presented case-studies of successful projects on reduction of greenhouses emissions.The Swiss consulting group, Factor AG, showed the opportunities for CDM project development in Kyrgyzstan.
The Danish Environmental Agency, and Swiss International Development Agency and Consulting Company presented energy efficiency and renewable energy development in Kyrgyzstan.The European Commision highlighted, the priorities of the European Union's emission.Regional renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), showed their projects that involved international cooperation and their funding schemes.
The forum also had technical component day, as participants were taken to a small hydro power station and a bio gas plant.
