The 2024 Gender Climate Awards for achievements in gender equality and climate action within the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) were presented to 15 individuals and organizations from CAREC member countries at a high-level ceremony held in Astana, Kazakhstan on 6 November 2024.
The aim of the awards is to recognize individuals and organizations that are making significant contributions to gender equality in the context of climate change resilience, adaptation, and mitigation in Central and West Asia.
In her address, Lyaziza Sabyrova, Regional Head of Cooperation and Integration at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), praised the laureates for their dedication to advancing gender equality and climate resilience.
“To the awardees, your commitment and impact are nothing short of inspirational. You have shown us that together we can forge a more gender-inclusive path to a better world. Today, we celebrate your efforts, your courage and your unwavering commitment to gender equality in the face of climate adversity,” said Lyaziza Sabyrova.
Nurzat Abdyrasulova, President of UNISON Group, representing Kyrgyzstan, was awarded for developing gender-sensitive strategies to advance women’s roles in the energy sector.
“The gratitude and support means a lot to me and my team. We do a lot of work in Kyrgyzstan to support and advance climate and energy efficiency initiatives. I am delighted to have won this award because it inspires us to work harder and aim higher to advance women’s roles in our country. Thank you so much for your support,” said Nurzat Abdyrasulova.
The laureates were carefully selected from nearly 200 nominees from CAREC member countries: Azerbaijan, the People's Republic of China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The CAREC program, launched in 2001 and supported by the Asian Development Bank, symbolizes a committed partnership of countries and development partners working together to promote development through regional cooperation in Central and West Asia.
